    Skate Park

I went to the dedication to our town's new skate park yesterday. The park is amazing and it's really cool to have it here. It was funded by grant and donation money and when one funding source fell through the crew gave up their hotel rooms to camp at the park and finish it within budget.
Some really good skaters showed up for the opening day! I'll go skate it sometime when there's less of an audience!

Great wide image, this is the kind of image they are made for. The sky was perfect fo the shot. Love the way you caught the shadow in the bowl of the skater.
Don't forget about the Gallery. Are your photos there??

Thanks! That's with the inexpensive Rokinon 8mm f/3.5. Love that lens!

Sweet, Matt! Love those super-wide photos! That's classic skatepark photo style! Looks like you were using some fill flash, too? I can see the flash on your camera in the shadow you made in the photo of the girl in the bowl

Thanks John! Yes, I used a Sigma 530 Super flash in FP mode for faster shutter speeds knowing with the high sun that people's faces would have some hard shadows on them without it. It definitely helped!
I used to read a lot of Thrasher magazine as a teen and always loved those fisheye photos taken from the top of a half pipe or the lip of a bowl so I was trying to emulate that style.

I was considering 'shopping my shadow out but decided to leave it in because it was there and I don't mind it. Do you think it matters?

Naww - I don't believe in removing stuff from photos. If you shot it that way, leave it in there. And it doesn't bother me, either

    Matt,

The shot of the girl riding on the rim with her shadow showing on the bottom of the bowl is a definite winner. That super-wide angle lens takes in half of the universe!
