Re: pee wee and squirt hockey

The timing on that 4th photo is great.
At this resolution the goalie's head is merging into the advert behind the goal, is it better full size?

First photo is almost great, the puck is just going out of shot, which is a shame.
Nice exposure on his face through the mask, and one eye - that's how I found the puck!

Last photo, looks underexposed, but possibly your adjustment was different?

Jimmy I'll leave the tech stuff to some of the others, but I think your showing a lot of improvement here with these. Pretty good timing and exposures aren't bad at all. Nice going keep shooting and posting.
Don't forget about the Gallery. Are your photos there??

Thanks for the comments. Alot of credit on some of the setting etc. goes to Tad. He helped with WB and some coaching on the PP.
Paul the advert does take a little bit away from the shot, I cropped just a little off the left side, so you see is pretty much what I shot.

Re: pee wee and squirt hockey

Well here's 2 of mine from the same games. I'm holding off editing any more until I get the Spyder2 Express I ordered. I do PP on 3 different computers and I got tired of having my photos look different on each computer. Hopefully this help me start posting more consistent photos. Oh and Jimmy, don't give me too much credit as I just passed along what I've recently learned from JS, Brent and others.

Re: pee wee and squirt hockey

Both of you are doing much better. The top one seems like it may have too much noise processing, but otherwise they are much better. Even the timing is getting much better.

Guess I'll have to find some hockey to shoot...I miss it!

Re: pee wee and squirt hockey

Thanks JS. I have over 750 shots from 2 games and it's killing me not to be able to edit them. I can see a noticable difference in these 2 shots here at work compared to what they look like at home. I can't wait to get all of my monitors calibrated. I did get way more keepers than I have before, with a much smaller number of shots that are OOF. Jimmy showed me something cool with Canon's Zooombrowser. You can preview the images with the focus points overlaid on them so you can see exactly how well you kept the focus point on the player. I looked at a bunch of them yesterday was quite pleased to see that for the most part I was able to keep the focus point on the player. I think I'm gonna start inquiring about shooting from the bench to see what that's like.

    Your welcome

BTW, some places require you to wear a helmet now when shooting from places like the penalty box

I'm ok with that. I like my head just the way it is. It may not be pretty, but it's the only one I have

Scars give you character .... or at least thats what I was told by a former hockey coach. so that season I went out and got a bunch of em. Well, about 60 stiches at least. All total I got over 3000 stitches from playing sports as a kid and in high school, and even a few taking photos of sports (my shoulder surgery back In Feb of 2006).

Hmmm... I think I'll pass on the scars. I already have a few small ones from some downhilling mishaps. That's enough character for me.

Just for the heck of it, I disabled the Adobe Gamma which is all I have to this point to try and calibrate my monitor. Wow, if my monitor is even close to right without the Adobe Gamma, I've sure been making my photos too bright! I went ahead and redid the first one so let me know if this looks good or not.

Tad that does look better than the above shot, you dont see the red speckels in the goalies jersey.
Are you going to get a 90 degree veiwer so you can use your downhill Lid?

Yeah I turned off the Adobe Gamma here at work and yikes :eek6: those first two look bad. I can't wait until I get the Spyder. Now I'm afraid to look at the other photos I've posted.

Yeah, but the bigger question is can I get a helmet for my camera?

Yeah I need to look into that before I get much more gear. I now most homeowners policies only cover camera equipement to a certain point. After that you need separate policy to cover it. Do you know if separate coverage includes damage from something like what mught happen on a shoot?

Re: pee wee and squirt hockey

The coverage you get depends on the company and what policy you get. I know one guy who left his camera bag behind and they paid for a new 1D and two lenses, all he had to pay was the $250 deductable. which was about the same as his yearly payment.
