    Off to the races!
Well I am headed out the door shortly on my way to Ft Wayne for the indoor midget races. I'll be shooting there today and tomorrow for 4 newspapers. I'll be home tonight and post a couple shots here from todays action.
It will be a very long two days! 9am-10pm each day and a 1 1/2 hour drive each way. Then processing takes a an hour or so..

It was a very long day, starting at 6am to get ready and make sure the dog was OK before leaving. I got Ft Wayne at 9am. At some point while walking around I was approached by someone who is a new member here, not sure what his moniker is, but Welcome James, and nice to meet you! As I am sure James will atest to, the lighting was AWEFULL! There was, however plenty of action, and it seemed Tony Stewart and the "Munchkin" midget were in the thick of it as Tony was involved in wrecks in both Heat #1 and the feature. The feature crash took Tony out, along with Dave Darland and Mel Kenyon.
The below shots show a tiny bit of the action, I'm too tired to do more at the moment as I got home at 2:30am and just woke up with a really bad headache and pain in my leg from standing all day on cement or a steel platform.
The car in the bottom shot did not crash! Great save on that one.

Great action shots John. You may have had bad lighting but your images with the exception of #2 didn't suffer that much. Get some rest and then give us some more pictures to pour over.

yeah, #2's really weird, but other than that they're great. sharp, and good color with the lighting you had. I like the last one a lot.

#4 is great, you can see he had opposite lock on before he lost it.
He must have whlipped the wheel round hard to catch that one !

I see what you mean about the lighting on #2, I guess I'm going to have the same issues at the NEC and I'll find out how the two bodies perform in the low light of the arena.

Are you taking the MKII N SW ? If they have a combo of yellow tungstien and halogen let me know, I'll give you a starting point for the MKII N. You really need to play with the WB and WB Color temp (don't have my maunal handy or I'd give you the page number to read up on it.
With flash you get a blue tint to the photo, which will pretty much disapear when do "auto levels" in PS.

Yes, I'll have both with me.
I was planning on auto levels for everything I want to share :)
It's mixed Sodium and Mercury lamps, with a little daylight in some places, and tungsten (and gels) on the stands.

Auto WB won't work, the camera will pick one and ignore the others, you need to find the middle ground between the two. I'll do a thread on the goofy lighting and what eventually got it "right".
