    Ice Hockey Arena Photography

I have a D 80 with the kit lens 18-135. I hear a lot of good about the 18-200 nikon lens with VR.

This lens, retails for about 899.00 Canadian, will I get that much more out of this lens in that application? i usually shoot in the P mode with higher ISO's , as long as I watch the white balance all seems to be not too bad.

You need an f2.8 lens, you will lose one stop shooting through the glass even with an f2.8. With hockey you have the best WB tool around, a nice big white sheet of ice so use it to set WB

Oh, and learn to use Manual mode, the P and A modes and so forth do not give the best results.

Thanks, JS, I want to get back to using manual, probably a good place to start to get a better understanding of photography all together.

Not a problem, I just can't see using the other modes myself, unless I am looking for something specific otherwise they just do not seem to work, photos will usually be soft or worse.
