How to get media credentials at IndyCar Series Races

Hello, I'm new to this forum and am interested in starting a hobby of taking photos at IndyCar series races. Does anyone have any advice about how to obtain media credentials at IndyCar Series events? I'm in Indianapolis but wasn't sure how likely I would be able to obtain one for the 500. But I'm a huge Indy Pro Series fan too so maybe I would have an easier time obtaining credentials for carb day or practice sessions?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Also, what would be a good entry level camera for snapping some photos? I'm looking for a low cost camera to start off my hobby.

Shooting racing isn't as easy as it sounds, and to be honest it's really tough to break in, and it isn't cheap either.
The way in is to get some really good action shots at area tracks and then turn the best in to the AP or a similar organization and see if they will take you on. You won't make much, but you get in for free.
Camera wise though the AP is fairly picky, they want people with at least 4mb capable cameras, but NOT cameras like the Rebels, although there are a couple 20D's and 30D's still floating around on the necks of a few AP oldtimers most have gone to the 1D, 1D MKIIN or now the 1D MKIII.
