    Halloween Cyclocross Race - Costumes!
I shot another UTCX cyclocross race in Salt Lake this last Saturday. This one had it all - a good course, costumes, and it even rained. I shot almost 1000 photos and tossed almost half - mostly because of focus issues. But I am super psyched about a bunch of them - especially the costumed racers! And this post is going to be all about costumes. Anyone else who shot the race (or any other Halloween CX race) is invited to add their own costume racer photos to this thread. The more the merrier!

I'll get it started with one of my favorites - the terrified clown :)

And then I'll follow that up with the waffle. For those who don't know, cyclocross is huge in Belgium and so Belgian waffles are sort of the official food of 'cross racing. I guess pommes frites and Belgian beer can be included in that food group, too.

And the beer keg. This would be a fun costume most places. But in Utah, where alcohol rules are a little tighter and having a keg is actually illegal, this costume is extra special :)

    Some Pee Wee Racer Costumes
The kids are always awesome. I especially like the little ladybug racer. Check out her badass boots!

    The Ladies
What can I say, I like taking pictures of the women racers. They may not be as fast, but they're a lot nicer to look at then the gristley pro me.

And the ladies had some fine costumes, too! Besides the beer keg, I liked the nun costume a lot and the devil lady was very eye-catching. But the most-impressive goes to the Mad Hatter, I think. She put a hell of a lot of effort into her costume.

You know what would have been awesome? A photo of the nun and the devil lady together! I should have thought of that while I was there. Damn.

My Favorite - The Ski Racer
I'm pretty amazed at the effort and creativity that went into the costumes. Not to mention that some serious racing went down by people wearing them. But I think this one has to be the most impressive. Thise guy was decked out in a full giant slalom ski racer getup - down to the ski boots. It looked like he was actually pedaling in ski boots! That would have been torture. And when the race was over I saw that he'd actually dissected a pair of ski boots so they would fit over his bike shoes. That's some serious dedication to the costume!

A couple more. I love this clown one and the horizontal through the trees is a Mexican wrestling getup with sweet Mexico jersey! Orale luche libre cyclocross!

Nice job, Chris. I was picturing a head-to-head battle or even a post-race shot where they're posing :)

I rode my bike over to Wheeler Farm yesterday and did two laps on the course. I can ride all of it but the sand. The sand is brutal. I'm contemplating maybe even trying a race - just so I can say I've done it...

Thanks for posting some of your photos, Josh. You've got some good ones. The barriers are fun to shoot, huh? I actually didn't shoot the barriers until the very end this last race. And by then it was too dark from the rain so those photos are mostly spoiled by too much motion blur.

I'm glad you got a good photo of the Braveheart costume. I didn't get any good ones of him and I thought that was one of the better costumes.

So can we expect to see you at the races again?

Yes I am hooked now. I was thinking about trying my hand at racing someday. It was fun sitting where I was sitting to capture all those at the barriers. I got some at the end in the pouring rain at the barriers.
