    Aviation History Photos

Since I don't shoot sports anymore, I'm volunteering at the local Air Zoo. I figure as long as people are posting racing pix, this might be the place for some aviation, as well. My posts over in critique haven't gone over that great, mainly because...well.....most people want to see everything BUT aviation. I hope I have a home here.

Thanks Lori. I think that makes one of you.
After the total lack of interest on even looking at this thread, I doubt if I'll be posting any more.
    I appreciate your comments though.

Ok Lori......one more. I took this yesterday at the WACO plant. It was sitting just outside their hangar. WACO makes small biplanes for enthusiasts.

If you want aviation photography head to www.fencecheck.com, or this thread, http://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/600984

    Or my website, www.timadamsphotography.com

I used to go to the Zoo's airshows. It's a crime that the planes are just sitting now. I know the F8F, and the F7F are/were for sale. Hopefully they sell, and are put back in the air where they belong.

    John,

I love the 3rd one. I have a base where I live and see the planes everyday. I always wanted to take some pics, but am always a day late and a dollar short. I grab the camera and they are done flying.....

Yours, Lori's and Adam's pictures are awesome.

    Great Job...

    Re: Aviation History Photos

Well, it appears I was misjudging the Sports forum. Thanks for all your comments.
Tim......regarding the Air Zoo....due to 9/11 it got tougher to put planes in the air, and when you throw in the cost of maintenance, annuals, insurance, etc., it really adds up. The AZ is selling the Bearcat and Tigercat to generate funds for further educational programs, and the like. Since we rely mostly on ticket sales and not government subsidies, the only way we could generate some extra money was to sell the two planes that had the least 'historical impact'. All of us volunteers hated the thought of selling the two, because we lose our status as the only air museum that boasts the complete collection of "Cats".
Regarding the Air Shows, what stopped them was the fact that nobody was paying to come thru the gates. It was cheaper for families to sit in some parking lot and watch for free.....and I add myself to that group. We had some great ones though.
Now that I'm a volunteer docent, I've come to appreciate just how much money it takes to keep the operation running. We are all a little sad to the the planes sold.
I hope that you get an opportunity to come back.

John, I think there are a lot of gearheads in here. By the way that crusader looks so happy! He is smiling.

Lori, those aeroshell guys have a plane over here by me. The pilot was dive bombing us last Wed. Man that thing is LOUD! He came over trimming the leaves off the trees.

Good to see some plane shots. We have a few airports close but not many photogenic planes.

Great pics of a great subject. Used to put together model planes as a kid. Started with balsa models from the cereal boxes in the mid to late 40's. Some of my fondest memories as an air policeman(security) was watching U2's take off and land and also b-52 g's and h's doing bravo's, coco's and split launches with a wing of kc-135 tankers at night. The sights, sounds were unbelieveable, especially when you were so close to everything while working.

    Lori,
Not my axe, just a cool avatar that I found. Also it denotes my love of the "BLUES" and gitfiddles.
Best acoustic player that I never saw was Andres Segovia(sp) came to my town but I elected to work overtime and thought that I would see him when he rolled back thru, unfortunately he died before that could occurr. There is a lesson there, don't put things off, do it today.
