    Sony NEX-5N with LA-EA1 & Sony A Lens?

    Hello,

I did a "search"" here (within this Sony & Konica Minolta) forum, for "NEX", and I didn't find any results.

So, with that said - - Anyone here using the Sony LA-EA1 - Mount Adapter: A mount to E mount, on their NEX-5N cameras?

I'm reading a lot about how it is "pretty much useless" to use in trying to AF with the Sony A (attached/mounted) lenses?

Some "say" it isn't even too slow to be of much benefit in bright light, landscape (stationary) subject shooting?

What's your opinion, tips and suggestions?

Also, what particular lenses have you "tested" tried it on with this combo?

    Thanks,

    Ed

Most of the NEX posts are in the EVIL (Electronic Viewfinder Interchangable Lens) & Micro Four Thirds forum. I don't beleive anyone here has the Sony adapter. There are a couple adapting to non-A-mount lenses.

The NEXs (NEXes, NEXi???) use Contrast Detect AF which is simply slower than Phase Detect. It is a little faster using E-mount lenses that are designed for CTAF. Also remember than only the A-mount lenese with in-lens AF motors will AF with the LA-AE1.

The LA-AE2 provides Phase Detect AF.

Ed I used a couple of different lenses with the adaptor and the lenses that would focus hunted extremly bad even in good light. Personally I think there are enough lenses available for the NEX system without having to invest in A mount glass, unless you intend on getting an A mount camera.

    Hi Greg,

Yes, I did get myself a Sony A300 DSLR camera, with Sony 18-70mm kit lens, arrived yesterday, Friday, March 2nd.. :yesnod:..

Very excited, and looking forward to starting to use it..

Why, I was wondering about the Sony LA-EA1 with trying out the 18-70 kit lens on the NEX-5N..

I am now an "official" Sony DSLR camera owner/user...

    Thanks,

    Ed

    Hello Terry,

    Thanks for the in-depth explanation.

I seem a few threads/posts in those forums, but also was thinking that is being a "Sony" would fit here..

I understand though this is really more for the good 'ole fashion Sony DSLR cameras.. I have one now) Sony A300, just got it.. (one day old to me.. Used - but new to me... supposed to have under 5,000 shots , so I guess called almost new..?

    Appreciate your help...

    Thanks,

    Ed

    Hi Greg:

Were any of the lenses able to AF, if so which lenses?

    Thanks,

    Have a nice evening...

To be honest Ed I don't remember but will let you know soon. I have a new LA-EA1 on the way.

    Re: Sony NEX-5N with LA-EA1 & Sony A Lens?

ELS - the images will be perfectly fine, the adapter makes the lens work as though they were on a DSLR. The down-side however, is if you have non SSM lens, you won't have autofocus. For screw-driven AF lens, the LA-EA2 provides for that, in addition, it has PDAF points, so the AF will also be significantly quicker, though it is also twice the price of the LA-EA1 (MSRP anyway, not sure street)

Personally I use the cheaper adapters for different lens mounts, which have neither AF nor electronic aperture control, and they work very well. the LA-EA1 is just like that, except with electronic aperture control and with SSM, they have AF.
