I just won a bid for a Maxxum 7000+ 50mm f/1.7, only $55. Yeah I know the camera is junk, and I know I already have the 50mm. haha, I wasn't even expecting to get it, I just thought "hmm, 50mm f/1.7 at $55? Sure, why not", and lo and behold, I actually won it! Yaaay, but, its entirely useless to me. I might find some temporary use for it, or something, or just resell it, hehe. Probably not my brightest impulse, meh, maybe I'll make a good $30-$40 on the resell.... Maybe I'll figure out a purpose yet...

Nice to have a spare. You can probably give the 7000 to someone.

The 7000 was a great old workhorse and my first SLR, don't go and disrespect it :)

If that's the Minolta 50mm 1.7, it was a nice lens as well.

Anyway, glad to hear you say good things about it. The thing I am most concerned about is AF speed, which I don't expect this will be up to par with the Maxxum 7 or even the maxxum 5. If its comparable to the 5, I may just settle for it and use it.

But yeah the 50mm is definitely my favorite lens to use ever, and my cheapest lens too, now its exponentially my cheapest lens lol.

I still have a Maxxum 7000, and still use it, just not as much as the other film bodies. It has a Program Back 70, which I bought primarily for the Intervalometer.

The AF is definitely slower than the Maxxum 5 or 7, but gets the job done on many subjects.

I wanted to go digital and Minolta didn't have a DSLR that was reasonably priced. Canon did so I got the D-Rebel.

This was before Sony and Minolta merged. :) I still have my old Minolta film cameras-- Maxxum 7000, HSTI, and a old SRT-101. I don't shoot film much anymore though, so they don't really get used, but I just can't bare to part with them.

AF is definitely slower than the later Maxxums and if I recall is center point only. Metering is center weighted. But it's sturdy workhorse that does its job and does it well, and can pretty much survive a bomb going off next to it with just a few scratches :)

That stupid jerk sold me a busted camera with a busted lens, aperture diaphragm doesn't close, and the camera doesn't turn on. What a lying punk, listing said "no returns" but it also said "functions as intended". So, this punk better accept a return... Grrrr Im pissed...

If you payed with paypal you can also register the dispute with them. I hate jackasses who give ebay a bad name. Good luck!

I have had only one similar experience, with a cell phone. Paypal intervened when I filed a complaint, which included copies of my emails to/from the seller. Took about 2 weeks, but I received a full refund.

Okay maybe I overreacted calling him a lying punk, I think its possible it may just have escaped his notice. I guess there are some people who sell lens and don't think to check the aperture diaphragm :-\. I haven't tested the lens on the maxxum 7000, dont have the batteries, but when I put it on other cameras the metering readout flashes F22. Maybe the 7000 overrides and still shoots with a bad aperture?

Contacted him and he is at least saying hes willing to issue a refund. Though the whole thing is sort of sketchy. Hope it goes well. His feedback points are pending, at least I have that leverage.

The 7000 just takes AAA batteries (eight if I recall).

Can you see the recessed "hook" for the aperture on the back of the lens? I wonder if that broke. That happened to one of my sister's lenses once.

I have one 7000 with a double a battery holder, the other has a triple A. In either case, 4 batteries are required. Another reason I have taken the 7000 with me, AA and AAA batteries are available almost everywhere.
