    Tech problem with Camera
I have a Konica Minolta DiMAGE Z3. My teenage daughter has been using it and now I have a problem. Imagine that! When I turn it on, the lens has a delay before extending out and then once it extends it retracts and shuts off. When it is extending the view finder lights up a light blue blank. Please help. Could something have gone wrong while downloading to computer? Also, when the lens retracts it is not fully retracted.

first, take out the battery...... do you have a spare to test it with?
make sure the battery is fully charged... it sounds like, it has just enough power to Try to turn on.. but, not quite..
if you have a spare battery, try it out (making sure its fully charged 1st ...)
do you have an AC adapter that you can test it?.. see if it works with that

tell me what happens with this stuff...

    Vanilla,
That was the first thing I tried. New batteries, same result.

Replaced the memory card this weekend but it had no effect. Problem still persists. Could it be due in any way to down loading to the PC and unplugging the usb cable to soon?

It's possible. I don't like connecting cameras to the computer because it's unnessarily complicated. I always recommend buying a card reader and downloading that way instead.

Have you checked the camera's menu for a reset control? That's something else to try. If that fails, I'd contact Konica Minolta customer service. It's very likely that they'll be able to identify the problem quickly.

    Hey Photo-John,
Contacted Konica Minolta's Customer Service. They had good news and bad news. The good news is that it is a mechanical problem covered by Warranty. The bad news is that the Warranty ran out last month.

Sometimes manufactures will give you a break if you say you are a loyal user, and plan on buying more KM products in the future. I had some problems with a drum set I used to own. It had a warranty but it ran out, and I need some repairs. I called the manufactuer and told them my situation, and they helped me out no questions asked. I just told them how happy I was with the product I just needed this little thing fixed. They fixed it, and I will always be loyal to the company.

does the lens telescope all the way out and then retract, or does it get stuck half way or something? If its the latter - it may be a simple problem that a ma and pa camera store can take care of.
