Sony Flash and Sony digital camera: Lack of communication

I have a problem.
I just bought a HVL F32X Flash for my DSC F828. Previously, I could just slot in the flash on the hot shoe, turn on both the camera and the flash, and then the LCD displays [HIGH GRADE FLASH CONNECT AUTO A]. Also the ready lamp on the flash charges up indicating that it is ready for use. However what I am experiencing presently is the contrary. When I slot in the flash and turn on both the camera and the flash the LCD only displays that there is a connection that is, [HIGH GRADE FLASH CONNECT AUTO A]. The ready lamp does not light up and when I press the shutter the flash does not fire. However, when I turn off the camera while still leaving the flash on, the ready lamp starts to blink indicating that it is charging up and ready for use. What is the problem?
