Sony DSC-H20-why does screen go black when I increase shutter speed manual mode?

Very happy with the camera. However, not sure what is going on when I am in manual mode. I put the shutter speed up to the fastest speed...1/2000 of a second...and it goes dark/black. Just wondering why it is doing that? Any suggestions?

The faster the shutter speed the less time for light to enter. The screen is showing you what the picture will look like.
