DSLR-A200K Sony Card Deal for $217

Has anyone tried to get this deal? Apparently if you get a Sony Card form the following offer you can buy the Sony DSLR-A200 with the DT 18-70mm f3.5-5.6 Standard Zoom Lens for $217.

    Offer page link.

I have heard good things about the camera and $217 is a great price. Any thoughts?

Well, I just bought one! You have to jump through a bunch of hoops and there was a glitch earlier this morning but it is working now. You actually pay $317 for the camera but you get back $100 on the credit card later. There's a bunch of fine print but it looks legit.

Thats legit? Wow! If so, then you basically stole that camera! ;) Good find!

*edit - oh, checked the link. It is sony.com, of course its legit. Wonder what the fees and interest rates of the card is though? Be sure to pick up a good lens now too! You absolutely must get a nifty 50, either the 50mm f1.7 or the f1.4.

They had a deal like this last Oct for the A-350K (body plus kit lens). I got it for $450 ($700 msrp). No problems. The price includes tax and shipping. In Jan, they also sent me a code to use on the Sony Rewards site for 20% off – good through June. – TF

I just got the card , instant approval and redeemed for the camera. It is $317 on the site when you buy it and you get $100 card credit. You also get 12 months 0% APR. Make sure you go back to the offer site and click Redeem Now to get the $317 price.

Is the zoom lens that comes with it that bad? I'm on a tight budget (that's why I took the bait on this deal!) and am hoping this lens will do me for a while.

Looking at the lenses on the Sony Web site, there aren't many choices for the alpha. I understand this camera will accept Minolta lenses as well -- is that right? Where is a good place to shop for lenses?

    Sorry about all the questions.

All of the old Auto-Focus (AF) Minolta lenses - also known as the a-mount or, now, the alpha-mount - will work on your A200. Older Manual-Focus Minolta lenses with the SR-mount (mostly labeled MD or MC) will not fit on the camera. Here is a data base of the AF lenses.

And this one has most everything for the Minolta Maxxum/Sony a-mount systems.

The kit lens is certainly capable of taking great photos, but it is not the best - even among the lower grade lenses. If you work with it, learn its limitations and how to get around them, you will have learned a lot about photography. Most alpha owners pick up a Minolta 50mm f/1.7 early on because they can be cheap and provide a good low-light start. Some used lens places:

And, of course Ebay (but be careful).

That should keep you busy (when your not shooting) for a while.

Wow that is a crazy deal. I did a similar thing with the a700, though the deal wasn't nearly as good since the camera had just come out. Basically, I signed up for the card and bought the camera. I got $100 taken off the bill. Then when I registered the camera online, I had to disable my pop-up blocker to get a pop-up coupon code for 20% off accessories from Sony Style. I used that to pick up the vertical grip and spare battery. To top all of that off, I just used my Sony card rewards points to purchase the Sony hand strap.

when will you be getting the 300G on your card, Canuck?

I'd almost be inclined to sign up for the deal myself, but my 5D earns its keep as my present backup. Been a while since I took the poor thing out, I'm sure she misses me....
