    Sony Alpha DSLR-A300 camera?
    Hello,

Does anyone here, own and still use their Sony A300 camera.?

Any thoughts on it (Pros and Cons).

Any samples using it, with the normally supplied "kit" 18-70mm
    lens, that is comes with?

    Thanks,

    Have a nice day...

I have, and still use, an A350 whenever I need the Live View. I think the A300 is the same except for a few less Mpixels. The sensors in these models (A200/300/350) give excellent images as long as you have good light. The 18-70 will be a bit of a dissapointment, but there are good value used Minolta lenses that will work well. - Terry

    Hi Terry,

    I picked up (finally - yesterday - Fri. Mar. 2 - delivered ) - a Sony A300 DSLR, with the 18-70 kit lens.

I was hoping to have got a chance to get out with it today, (Saturday, march 3), but too many other things going on...

Hoping to grab a first time outing tomorrow, (Sunday, March 4th) with it.. :)

I wanted to see if there were others here with the A300 as they might be able (from their own previous experiences offer me some "Dos and Don'ts" that they have learned about the camera.

Looking forward to getting a chance to use...

I'd like to get a grip for it too, I like gripped cameras.. Generic grip would work, but I see them all sold out so far where I looked online..

    Thanks,

    Ed

Same here I looking at a used A300 and I wondering if anybody has some insight on this camera, other than the reviews I've read on the net I would like real world experiences.

Also the reason I am interested in the A300 is that I have some older lenses for my Minolta 3xi specifically and older Quantary 70-300mm AF would this lens work with the A300 and have the AF work also.

    Thanks

Generally, any Minolta "Maxxum" lens, or 3rd party lens listed as being Minolta Maxxum compatable should work just fine. Basically, if it works with your xi camera, it should be fine on the newer Sony Alpha DSLR's. The only ones that have been shown to be flaky are some of the older Sigma lenses.

Dyxum is a website that has a great lens database that lists all the Minolta A-Mount "Maxxum" auto-focus compatible lenses with reviews and ratings...

As for the Quantaray lens mentioned, it'll work, as I gave it a try on my old Sony A100 a few years back. You'll need to step it down to f8 to get sharp images though, as the optics of that lens are a bit on the lower end side of things.

    Thanks ELS

What about the A330 with the SAM system, should all older Minolta A mount AF lenes still work?

And one last question is the A330 worth some (small) extra money compared to the A300 just for the better lens.

    Thanks

    Re: Sony Alpha DSLR-A300 camera?
I have had a Sony A300 for several years. Just recently I decided I want to dramatically improve my photography skill and so am studying and trying the various A300 features.
One question I have is does this camera have a place to put a cable release? After searching the camera body I cannot find one. I also searched the manual and still no luck. Since the A300 is digital, I am guessing that any cable release-like feature would be an electronic version, i.e. have some sort of electrical connection to the camera, though just what that would look like I cannot say.
I want to take some shots with long shutter speeds (i.e. 1/2, 1, 2, or even more seconds) and of course I will need to put the camera on a tripod for that but I was wondering how I might use a cable release to take the picture.

    It's #6 on pg 37 0f the online manual.

Thanks Terry. I had missed that page in my earlier search.
