    Sigma 24-60 mm F2.8 EX DG 77mm
Anyone use a Sigma 24-60 mm F2.8 EX DG 77mm on your sony a100 or a700? Would this make a good portrait lens?

I have no experience with this lens, but I can tell you that Sigma EX lenses are usually very good. The thing to watch out with Sigma, is that I've read that many people experience a front or back focus issue. I don't know if that's with all Sigma's though. If you can, try it out on your camera first before you buy it. If it works out, this should make an excellent portrait zoom lens for you.

I must ask, any reason you singled out the Sigma 24-60? If you are open to other ideas, the f/2.8 zoom that gets the most attention for the alpha mount is the Konica-Minolta 28-75. It is an excellent lens, and is both smaller and lighter than the Sigma. It is also a D lens so it can be used with ADI metering.

No reason for singleing it out. I may be able to get one for around 150 or so. I am open to other klens that will be good too. I will look for some of those that you said.
