open question

I have two maxxum format lenses one a minolta 35-70 the other a sigma 75-300. I took them to my local camera shop and the little one works fine on the sony body, but the big one doesn't even register that it is on the camera. Any idea as to what the problem might be...and more importantly, anything I can do?

First try cleaning the contacts on the lens.

Sigma lenses are constantly having problems on Sony bodies because they do not to license the mount and just 'reverse engineer' instead of building to the standard. When Sony changes something, though still within their standard, the Sigma lenses often don't work. You could contact Sigma and see what they say, but the 75-300 probably isn't worth fixing unless it's free.

Yep, you can contact Sigma and see if they'll rechip the lens for you. If you don't want to deal with the hassle, maybe it's best to avoid Sigma a-mount lenses.
