    Sigma Lens Error

I just acquired a Sigma 400mm f5.6 prime. Seems to work OK, on my Sony A200 but the lens shows up in the EXIF data as a 75-300mm lens, though the shot records as focal length 400mm. Kind of strange, but I don't think it matters a whole lot.

Anyone else seen something like this?

    Re: Sigma Lens Error

Sigma doesn't use a recognized lens ID for A-mounts lenses. There is no way for the software to know what lens it is. - TF

Glad to know that. I figured it was something like that. Looks like the lens is pretty good, I am still checking it out.

    Thanks,

    Re: Sigma Lens Error

I went out today with the Sigma 400 and the same Sony A200, the EXIF data is now reporting 400mm. The focus is also locking in better. I think I am going to like this lens afterall. I was a bit worried I had a dud.

    Re: Sigma Lens Error

It should report the correct focal length even if it were a zoom. That isn't the same as the lens code. - TF
