    A950 rumors

I haven't been reading any new rumors about the a950. Any guesses at what we will get and how much it will cost? Is there anything you want to see or not see on it. I know I would prefer on OVF. The a77s buffer fills pretty quickly and it makes shooting my daughters soccer harder. Plus the stall time between shots when the drive is set to single shot is to slow for a sports pro. I hope Sony irons that out soon.

    Re: A950 rumors

    Hello Greg:

I'm not as "talented or knowledgeable" a photographer as yourself, as your photos here are proven testament to your ability, therefore maybe my comments and thoughts should be considered "as a "newbie's insight". LOL

But, is there maybe even an adjustment to the "file sizes", that would allow a faster "flushing - write times" of the buffer, to decrease your shot-to-shot ratio "lag times"..?

    Just a thought...

    Have a nice day,

    Ed

I assume he is shooting raw, in which case, the file size is not flexible. Greg, if you shoot raw + jpeg, then get rid of the jpeg and the buffer will take longer to fill.

You could also slow down the burst to 3 fps or 5, instead of the full 10, if you haven't done so already. Still fast enough for sports, without filling up the buffer so quickly.

Thanks Charlie, I shoot Jpeg only when shooting sports because I take so many pictures.

Well first, think A99, not A950 - a new OVF Sony would be a major shift in their stated direction. There are supposedly several designs/prototypes floating around. Sensors are from 24 to 36 Mp plus a possible square sensor. Costs rumored from the A850 $2k through Nikon D800 contender.

I think everyone would like to get more images in 12fps. Something like 4600 Mb/sec is a lot of data to handle.

I have not heard much about 'stall time' for the A77. A new firmware came out last week - v1.05.

Terry I updated the firmware a couple of days ago but have yet to try it. The dials seem to change settings a little smoother. I have had a couple of minor issues. It was writing to the card, before I updated, and wouldn't unfreeze during the write cycle and I wound up turning the camera off and back on. My E5 had a couple of lockup issues as well.

    Re: A950 rumors

I'm eager to hear more about the a99, but it's more curiosity than any plans to go out and buy anything.

As noted by others, the buffer size / flush time issue is the one thing that I am most interested in. General control speed needs to be snappy as well.

24mp-36mp, either would be fine for me. If sticking with 24mp gives me better ISO and faster processing times, I'll take it. If I'm stuck with slow processing times and no or only minor ISO improvements in either, then I might as well take the 36mp to get the extra data to play with.

Either way, unless I win the lottery, I'll keep using my a900 for quite a while. Still love it, when I actually get out to shoot with it.
