    Custom White balance

    Hello All
I have a Sony Nex5 and use this camera for astrophotography, I am useing a Tutorial C/D to help me get started. This C/D states to set a Custom white balance on the night sky.
Following Sonys manual , I go to CWB, Set CWB and shoot the sky . I get custom white balance Error 9900k 9M.
Is this possible with the Nex5? I have posted on several other forums, but nobody wants to touch this question

    Thanks..............Wojo: mad2:

    Re: Custom White balance

The night sky wouldn't give you an accurate color temperature. I don't understand why they would tell you to do that anyway, shoot it raw at 5k, adjust color temperature in conversion.

Along with custom wb there should be an option that allows you to select a color temperature on the scale, adjust to 5000, no filter. Shoot in raw, and the color temperature remains a variable.

    Re: Custom White balance

err - it doesn't take being 'quite that good'. Click custom set, point it at something white, shoot, done.

Although doing that would be tricky for the OP's use, what is white in astrophotography?
