    Stupid question...
How do you get the icons that are shown below the window where you type a message to show up in the message? You know, the smile, etc... OK, it's been a slow day but I've never been able to figure it out. I shoulda stayed in school!

    Two groups of icons...
What the heck, I'll take your query at face value and give you a straight answer. Shows what control I've developed over my bitingly sarcastic personality...

The icons below the text box, if chosen, appear next to the title of your post in the thread list. That's why they're called post icons. Note you can choose only one per post. You click next to the icon you want, and it appears next to the post title...

The icons to the right of the text box are for insertion in the message itself...

    Any other dumb-a$$ questions??? :D ;) :)

Actually it was a serious question (well, not life changing - but I was curious). I understand about the Post Icons but I don't have any icons to the right of the text box... just blank space in the light blue area, then ads on the right of the screen.

Am I losing what's left of my mind or what am I not seeing?!

    Thanks...

Right next to the text box on the right side, there should be a little box entitled "Smilies" - it's right under "Close All Tags" and a red x at the top.

The ones below say "Post Icons" - as you indicated.

If you click the "Smilie" icon - it will appear to the left of the "Title" at the top - not enclosed - of the message box. Check the lightbulb next to "Steve" at the top. You can only post one Post Icon - you can post more than one "smilie." :)

I hope this clarifies it. If not, please post back - so we can figure out what's going on.

    Liz

    Hi Steve...

If you answer by "quick reply" you wont have any icons. Also, check your options in your profile, if you have Basic Editor selected, that could be the problem.

    To change options click on
    "my profile"
In the left panel "Edit Options"
At the bottom "Miscellaneous Options" select "Standard Editor, or Enhanced Interface."
    Save Changes

That was it!!! I guess Basic Editor was how it was set up and I didn't know about changing it. So now I have this new toy  that I promise I won't overuse :p and will only use it when absolutely necessary ;) to help explain a point I'm trying to make  .

I was about ready to take a picture of the screen to prove that I really didn't have it. Now you'll be sorry... Mucias Gracias

Guess I'll have to watch it or I'll get another one of these messages (good thinking, moderators!) "You have included too many images in your signature or in your previous post. Please go back and correct the problem and then continue again"

And this is a golden example of where smart-a** answers go a little ary isn't it. We should never assume that everyone has their options setup the same way we do, that way we won't give out answers and get egg in our face, will we. :D  :p

    I'm sure you realize...
...I couldn't go a whole post without messing with you... :D

I figured there was a problem like you described, and under those circumstances it was a legitimate question. IOW, NOT stupid...

    Just curious, Peter...
To whom is your post aimed at? I realize it's Friday and as usual, I'm beat and a little slow, but I didn't see any smart-a$$ answers in the thread at all...

Mine certainly wasn't. As I said in my original post, I gave a completely straight answer to Steve trying to help explain the way the icon system works. Based soley on the little bit of info he gave in his original post, how would I know how he had his screen configured or what exactly he was confused about?

If you think I'm the one with egg on my face, perhaps you should read my reply to Steve more carefully. The funny remark at the end of it was exactly that: a funny remark at the END of a post where I tried to be as genuinely helpful as possible. I'm certainly not embarassed by it or anything Steve said in reply to it. Why would I be?

Steve is someone whom I consider a friend, and I think he knows by now when I'm just teasing. I specifically went out of my way in both my posts to point out to him that I thought his question was indeed legit, and NOT stupid. BTW, If I had actually thought it was a dumb question, I would have simply ignored it...

Perceptions of some aside, I think it's fairly safe to say my comments in the forums are helpful to the members here FAR more often than they are not...

Perhaps I misread your comments. If so I'm sorry, but truth is they seem pretty clear. All I know is if the day ever comes where I think moderators are starting to moderate each other, that's the day I'm gone...

Anyway, I couldn't just let those remarks slide without saying something. At this point, I suppose it's neither here nor there. Have a good weekend, and I'll try to do the same...

Fair enough. Weekends already half over here. Hows the computer going, I didn't see anything about it for a while. Did you manage to get the info back off of the hard drive.

Well Steve, now that you have your smiley faces in working order, smile away! At least I hope they will be the happy ones! Glad I could help :D
