Strange problem....regarding posting & keyboard

I'm having a strange problem when typing a post here. The "enter" key on my keyboard will not work at all. I can't go from one line to the other by hitting the enter key. I have to move the space bar continuously at the end of a paragraph to start another one. Now the space bar and other keys won't work.....not happening on other websites - just tried a few. Now my keyboard is not working properly at all....but it works everywhere else. HELP! Liz

Has anyone else had this same problem? This doesn't sound at all familiar to me.

Have you tried restarting your computer, Liz? This sound more like a browser-related issue than a forums problem to me. I definitely need more information to try to troubleshoot it.

Everything works! It is fine now!!!!!

That was really strange!

I did restart the computer at the time - more than once, but it did not help. I also went to a couple other websites and it worked fine. I couldn't understand what my keyboard had to do with PR - and at first assumed it was the keyboard until I could use it elsewhere with no problem.

Then, I went out for a few hours.....leaving my computer off. Now it works!

Hi Liz and John, I am having the exact same problem!! that is so strange. I posted in another thread and I could not go to the next line, when I pressed Enter. Also, when I tried to use my space bar to go to the next line, it ended up misaligning all the text I had typed, so that didn't work for me either. So, I came to this thread and saw this topic...I guess I can try to leave my computer for a bit, like Liz did, and see if that works, but is there another solution?

I still have this problem - frequently. Sometimes I resolve it by closing the post (IOW clicking "post quick reply"). Then I come back to edit it. Usually the edit will let me separate the lines and make separate paragraphs. Sometimes not. At any rate, it is time consuming.

However, now that the problem is posted, someone will reply. It may take a while since it's the weekend. But it will be responded to.

Liz, I am trying to see if I have the same problem.
I am using Firefox and all seems to be working for me.

Trying a new paragraph to see what happens and everything seems to be working fine for me.

Just fyi......sometimes it works, then out of the blue, it won't let you begin a new paragraph.

Yesterday when I was typing the above message, I was going to add something else, but it would not let me begin a new paragraph so I just posted what I had typed.

Also, if you continue typing for a while, it will sometimes begin a new sentence above everything you've already typed - then it starts throwing letters everywhere. When this begins to happen it gets progressively worse.

That is the tricky part. Everything works fine, then you're in the middle of a long post, and it starts messing things up. Some days I can't even type a few words without a problem. Other days it will let me do a complete post - but not often.

Also - it sometimes lets me correct the mess by doing an edit. But for me it's not worth the trouble, so quite a few times I just don't post.

ETA: this only happens on PR for some reason, so I don't think it's my problem.

hi everyone! I figured out the solution!! :D

Here it is: Go to the icons above where you are writing the message (where is has Bold, Italics, Font...) find the icon with the little "smaller A/big A" (it is the first icon, top left-side) and click it to say "Switch Editor to Source Mode"--that's it!

I did that and now I can begin new paragraphs, by pressing the Enter button, like usual.:cool:

Thank you, PhotoGirl! I couldn't replicate the problem and that makes it pretty much impossible to solve. That said, I switched back to WSYWG mode, which I never use, and I am able to create new paragraphs with the Enter key. So there might be a little more to this than just switching to Source Mode.

By the way, for anyone who doesn't have any idea what we're talking about, you have to be using the "Advanced Mode" that gives you all the formatting options to make the chance that PhotoGirl is referring to. The button she's talking about is in the top left-hand corner of the Advanced panel, about the text field where you type in your post.

Someone else please give this a try and see if it fixes the problem. I've got my fingers crossed...

I've seen the probems describedd happen with chrome and the wyswg edit mode
