Server busy!!!

I'm getting this so much lately, that it's very hard to use the site at all.

Sorry about that. I don't know if you noticed, but last week I made a whole bunch of code changes to the forums that fixed most of the performance problems. We had a bunch of old ad code that was making the pages load very slowly. I'm not sure what would have caused a problem this morning, though. It could be a random server problem - those do happen. Can you give me any more information? Did any part of the page load? Did you see anything in the lower left, status section of the browser?

the forumss are loading way faster than before :thumbsup:

the gallery is the one that is failing to me with this message ,
usually after clicking an image to see it larger

I've had an awful lot of this screen lately too. I also notice the number of views per pic have jumped drastically in the last couple of weeks...unnaturally so. No idea whats up with that either. I have not gotten the busy server at all today...so thats a good thing.

I haven't gotten that screen for the since yesterday morning. I hope what ever the problem was it is cleared up. It sure is annoying.

Believe me, I know. I am on the site all day and there's no way that I get to avoid performance issues. So if there's a problem, I'm usually aware of it. Sometimes there are momentary glitches thhat I miss, though. There are also geographical issues and equipment/software-specific problems. Those are the ones where I really need help. In any case, I want to know about performance issues and I will do my best to eliminate them as quickly as possible.

Started up again today. I've gotten the same screen three times this morning.

OK make it at least 10 times. Seems to be just in the gallery when I try to click on a thumbnail to comment or enlarge.

Thanks for report. You're saying it doesn't happen on the index pages? Just when you try to view an actual photo page?

That has been my experience. Other my have had it happen on the index page.

Oops! I just when and tried it again and it is also happing on the index page. My bad.

The problem is much worse today than it has been. Hard to get a photo uploaded.

Photo-John, I'm getting the server busy errors fairly often, especially this morning.
I'm not sure if you're still looking into it, but wanted to let you know that it's still happening.

I'm sorry, Pam. This is being looked at and I'm making almost daily reports about the problem right now. We haven't been able to isolate, though. one of the issues is that we can't even replicate it ourselves. I'm not seeing the problem and neither does our IT guy. That makes it extra hard to track down and fix. Anyway, we are aware of it and it's a very high priority.

John I am still getting these messages regularly. That and a screen like Armando posted. It makes the site very difficult to use.

We had a major database meltdown on Friday and it caused a lot of problems. That's been fixed now. But I did see the gallery screen with the wrong fonts while the database was broken. Is that the last time you saw it or have you seen it since?

This has been happening regularly for about a month. It's very random: I'll click on the gallery and that odd page will come up, then I'll use a different link and it will work. Then I'll switch to the Forums and it will be fine, the next time I come to the site I'll get the server busy again.

'Server busy' is killing me. I've been trying to get through todays postings for the last 6 hours. Same thing yesterday morning. - Terryt

Yep me too the last few days.
Same this evening - nearly gave up on the forum.

Had photo forum withdrawal.
Joined the 4/3 forum and Olympus E-system forum and Ira's FL wildlife forum.

The server has been busy about 50-75% of the time for the last 2 days. Seems worse in the mornings. Are you running through a hosting service PJ, or have your own server? Maybe the site is just gaining popularity.

I have noticed this also. Have also noticed a TON of spam over the last couple of days. I wondered if the spammers are the reason behind the server busy message.

Terrible tonight, took 5 minutes just to get the index
Continual retrying when this happens probably doesn't help the server load though :(

Sorry about that, Paul. I jjust talked to our IT guy and he said he found the root of the problem this morning (CA) and it's been fixed. Hopefully that means it won't happen again. I'm hoping it also means generally improved performance in the forums.
