Pic Upload - URL - how to
I couldn't figure out how to upload a photo from another website where I keep my images stored. Can someone help me out? Can I upload the actual picture or just the URL?
Thanks
Liz
Re: Pic Upload - URL - how to
Hi Liz - I have a PhotoBucket account and can (and have) link images from that site to show up in a post here. I use the image tag link that they provide which looks like this:
[IMG]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v355/SteveMuntz/DSCF0092.jpg[/IMG
You'd have to add one more bracket, this thing ] to the right end of that line to get it to work. I can't put it up there because then you'd see the image instead of that code. As I understand it:
[IMG] is an HTML code saying that this is an image
http:// etc is the URL of the image, all the way out to .jpg
[/IMG] is an HTML code saying that this is the end of that URL
Or something like that. :) You're welcome to take the above line, try adding the bracket on the end of it and seeing if the image pops up. It's from a Michigan trip a couple of years ago.

Thank you Steve,
I'll give it a "shot" later from Smugmug. :)
I was confused because in the "upload" box it has a place for uploading with URL but it's impossible (I think) to copy/paste anything.

Re: Pic Upload - URL - how to
I've never tried to upload from URL here, just an image that I have on my computer. If you do it that way, the image is stored on two servers - not that this is anything to worry about; it just takes a few seconds to upload it again.
The image tags get put into the text - right here where you're typing your reply. That way you will see the image in the middle of your post. Leave a line or two before and after text, and this way you can have text between all of your shots instead of just at the top like you would if you uploaded the images here. What the image tags do is display the image as it is stored on another server instead of uploading it here. I'm not sure about smugmug, but some photo sharing sites won't allow you to do this.
Just different ways of doing things; not that any one is necessarily better than the other.

Here's the smugmug page that explains how to find the pictures url.
On photobucket the url, and [img] stuff is given for each pic. I just highlight it, ctrl-c to copy it then ctrl-v to paste it into PR.
