    Getting rid of spam?
I'm curious why we make it so easy to spam here. If there were other procedures required to become a member, then these stupid spambots would have another roadblock. Is there even an "email confirmation" required to join? Is there any other step that can be taken to decrease the number of joining spammy shitheads? They really are quite a nuisance.

It is sort of indicative when you start seeing a notice saying "you must wait thirty seconds between reporting bad posts".

Spam is a problem. I can tell you that you only see a small fraction of what we get because a lot of times i am deleting spam and banning them while they are still on line and Paul and John do also, Jeff

The spam on this forum is so beyond bizzare that I actually kinda find it hilarious. Where do they come up with this stuff? I've never seen spammers with such elaborate stories! The latest one about the girl getting the enema is priceless, I might make it my FB status. :P

It is not easy to spam here. We make people jump through all kinds of hoops to register here, including e-mail confirmation. Only a few weeks ago we made some changes so you can't start a new thread or post a link until you've replied in at least ten threads. Thats why the spam has shifted into existing threads. The bottom line is, no matter what we do, the spammers are going to adapt.

In the gallery? Gallery spam is a real pain in the ass to clean up - way worse than the forums because the tools aren't as good. Please give me the spammer's username so I can make sure they get banned.

There was one this morning who came back after I deleted his first message and redid it. Waste of time.

Don't reply to SPAM messages, especially not with a quote. It draws attention to the SPAM and your reply gets deleted as well

How about asking for a monetary donation in order to register ?
I think that would defeat the purpose of most of the spammers ...

    no takers ?

how about limiting the number of new messages they can do?
    for example:
can post until at least 30 mins of being newly registered
can not post more than 1 message times the number of hours after registration
can not be registered more than once from the same IP address

Though I might think it is worth it now, with all the photo sites I would not have paid to originally sign up.

As for the other ideas, they can only use the tools that are built into the forum engine.

JeanJohns, Solavine, ashtongenz, toughjo and probably some other. All in the gallery.

Is there any way we can delete their spam posts in the gallery?

    The hard way :(
Find each comment, edit it, and click the delete checkbox.

Errr...it doesn't seem like I have that "edit" option available to me. I think it's for mods/admin only, isn't it?

Yes it is a mod thing only. If everyone could go in and edit we would have a real mess and be worse than the spam. I'm sorry about not replying yesterday when I read this originally. I meant to and then got distracted and forgot to post a reply. I will try and do better next time, Jeff
