Re: Forum doesn't load
It has been very slow for me. Like dial-up slow. None of the other sites I frequent are doing this (being real slow) I have Norton and I'm sure Windows has something in it, but I haven't done anything differently.
Does this have something to do with all of the "unsafe site messages" many of us were getting???

It's still slow for you, Bret? I pulled a bunch of ad code last night and it's been as fast as I can ever remember - for me, anyway.
The "unsafe site messages" are unrelated and should be long gone. That was a bad ad with malware in it. Basically, we got suckered by a fake advertiser. Not only did they use our site to spread malware, but we won't be getting paid. Lame. But the ad is gone and we went through the site and made sure everything is clean.
If the site is still slow, can you give me some more information? Is it hanging at a certain point in the page load? Are you seeing any status messages in the lower right-hand corner of your browser? Like I said, since last night we've made a big effort to go through the forums code and clean things up. That doesn't mean we got everything, though. Any detail you can offer will be a big help.
Thanks and I apologize for the poor performance :(

Re: Forum doesn't load
Well John, as soon as I posted this and went surfing around on this site, it was back to normal. Sorry for raising the alarm. I have not been getting any more unsafe site stuff anymore.
Thanks for your response and all of the work you and your team do with this great site.

Re: Forum doesn't load
I've noticed some problems with the forums loading lately as well. I hadn't been on the site for a while and came for a visit the other day. I was able to get to the home page but when I clicked on the forum link all I got was the header and a blank page.
I tried on another computer and what I found was that if I was not logged in the site displayed fine and loaded quickly. Once I logged in that's when I had problems.
This was in IE8 so I switched to using Chrome. At first Chrome took a while to load each page but at least it was being displayed. Today, I tried following a link from an email message about a thread and all I got was a blank page. When I tried in Chrome everything worked fine.

Re: Forum doesn't load
Thanks. When was this? I made a whole bunch of changes to the forums code last week and I think it's much faster and more stable now. There do seem to still be some problems with the gallery but I am hoping the forums problems are fixed.

Re: Forum doesn't load
For me the problem was occurring over the last 2 or 3 days. However, after posting this, and following the link from the email notification the page loaded just fine in IE8 so maybe the problem is solved.
Yesterday I also received an error message in an email notification but that issue seems to be resolved also since I got the notification that you responded to this thread. In any event the message was:
While trying to retrieve the URL: http://creview.adbureau.net/bservers...D=999/MFR=ALLM
The following error was encountered:
• Connection to 64.74.197.177 Failed
The system returned:
(110) Connection timed out
The remote host or network may be down. Please try the request again.
Your cache administrator is production@e-centives.com.
This was embedded in the body of the email.
This may be an issue for another thread but I have always noticed that the email notification formatting is not quite right, at least for me.
Each email has 2 urls at the top. The second one has an image placeholder next to it but it is always "x-ed" out. I can try to take a screen shot if you'd like.

Re: Forum doesn't load
Erik-
I know about that e-mail problem. It seems to be a server issue because it comes and goes. Those e-mails come from more than one server and it seems that one of them has the error and the other(s) don't. We haven't been able to track it down yet. But we are aware of it and it will get fixed.
Thanks!

Re: Forum doesn't load
I haven't been able to visit the forums for several days now. When I go to the forum page, it takes a minute or more for the page to load. The banner loads immediately then the page just hangs, I am timing one in a tab now, it just loaded and took 90 seconds. At the bottom left in the status bar its says connecting to "some type of ad bureau" and there is where it hangs.
I've tried to load the forums on Firefox and Safari, on my laptop, the company desktop, and my iPad. Same thing happens. Every other site I visit loads just fine with minimal delay. This has been ongoing for about 3 days now.

Weird though, my post took me back to the site almost immediately...

Re: Forum doesn't load
Well, I just figured out what it was: I hadn't posted in a while(it's been horrendously busy up here so far this year)and I had the banner "it appears you haven't posted in a while..." on top. As soon as I posted the site is loading faster than ever now. So that banner message was the hang up...

Re: Forum doesn't load
Thank you for the post on what speeded up the loading of the forums for you, because it has been very slow for me for about a week -- let's see if this works for me as well.

Yep, it worked! After that one post, the forums are loading quickly again.

Well that's interesting - and lame. Thanks for bringing that to my attention. That's not something I would have seen, since I post about 1000 times every day. I think I know why that would be slowing things down and I will try to figure out how to fix it.

Thanks!

Thanks a lot for that bit of info. I think that problem is fixed. We had old ad code in the forums, pointing to a server that isn't working anymore. I thought I removed it all last week. But there have been a few hidden bits - like this one. Since I post almost every day there's no way I would have discovered this without someone giving me the critical bit of information about the "you haven't posted..." notice. Leep this in mind if you have other problems here. The more specific the information you can give me, the more likely I am to be able to track down and eliminate the problem.
