I don't really like the blown out on the nose, but I do like it on the tiara....

Re: yey or ney?
I'm really not certain as to what could be done to improve, but I agree as you stated the nose area blown out is not appealing. The tiara is ok , but still a bit much towards the left. I personally don't feel anything from this shot but it just might not be my thing.

I really like the soft light look that you get with the kids. This is just personal, but I usually save the hard edged directional stuff for males with egoes, you know, the real stoic type, or still life shots.

This is an unusual shot. I like it. I like the way she looks. And I would
experiment with her hair placed the other way. But I'm sure you've already
tried a lot with that

Maybe Hmmmm....
I've just started looking at your work. Have you ever worked with a star filter (variable or otherwise)?
They can be overdone very easily, but its easy to see the effect before actually making the picture.
The variable angle star filters let you play with complimentary angles of the refraction. The often add a lot to photos with jewelry or other highlight generating elements.

The bright light is a bit distracting, but if this were my little girl I wouldn't see it. This is a very touching image Adina. Very beautiful.

What you said Adina!
Great portrait, but the nose is a little too bright.
The tiara works.
Thanks for posting!

Nope, no filters from me. I'm all digital, so anything like that would come in ps. This one was converted to b&w, then toned and sharpened some.
I see you are in Illinois. Will you be making an attempt at the self-portrait title and joining us in Chicago next year?

Re: yey or ney?
Yay! Adina, it caught my eye right off the bat (having it as a featured photo didn't hurt either LOL) To be honest the highlights on her nose or my tiara - er... her tiara don't bother me at all. I think they add to the feeling of "captured photo" which is how this feels to me. Too much planning would have ruined the mood.
I'll send you my mailing address so you can send me my crown
j/k Nice shot!

I don't know about titles, but there's sort of a self portrait in my gallery
Working shot
I'm sorting through some better contenders.
I'm in and out of Chicago fairly regularly. Was in Milwaukee the past year (summer 2004) and surprised someone hasn't (or have they?) had a gathering. Great clock towers, remnants of breweries, some very impressive pieces of hardware associated with Lake Michigan and shipping, and I know there's some architecture worth some time.
Got some Miller Park pics I suppose someone might like to view. . .

If you can brave the slightly chilly temps (we're at 0 degrees today, before the wind chill, not to bad) I'll borrow you my mittens, should you prove worthy of the title.

While in Chicago last time, we talked about a Milwaukee gathering. In the spring, after a nice long, housebound winter.
The title was bestowed upon me last October, in Chicago, by natabeach. Rick thinks that his measly attempts will earn him the tiara, but even if they do, I don't think he could handle the weather

There is a thread in viewfinder right now about this very matter...

Re: yey or ney?
While i do agree with the comments here sometimes the mood and feel of the moment blinds me to any technical faults. This is one of those.Put simply. I like it.

First I will say that it's a precious photo and good use of light. Use this photo as a base, can continue to work on this type of light. It's so dramatic and useful.
Your photo is a wonderful capture of your daughter.
Cheers,
Loren
