    Nikon D5200 announced

    It's here :

Nikon | News | Digital SLR camera D5200 Wireless Remote Controller WR-R10 Wireless Remote Controller WR-T10

It looks like you start with the D5100 and add:

    - the 24Mpix sensor from the D3200
    - the 35 point autofocus system from the D600/D7000
    - the 2048 point exposure meter from the D600/D7000/D800/D4

And that gives you a consumer camera that starts to overshadow the D7000. Pretty serious stuff.

Interesting. That announcement isn't on the Nikon USA site.

    Re: Nikon D5200 announced

Ok - just talked to my Nikon USA people. Apparently, this camera is not for the US market - not right now, anyway. I don't know if it will be available here in the US or not. I will take a closer look at it later today, though. It seems strange that it's not available in the US since it's a logical replacement for the D5100. It's probably a patent issue. It's also possible that they have some agreement to not step on Sony's toes since it's a Sony sensor (at least I believe it is). I would think that if it was a Sony agreement that it would be worldwide, though.

According to Chipworks the D3200 sensor is made by Renesas, like the sensors for the D3, D3S, D700.

Nikon also uses Aptina for the sensor in the 1 series.

Thanks, Charles. I need to bookmark the Chipworks Web site.

And more frames-per-second? If they did that then would it satisfy the people who have been waiting for a D400?

I wouldn't be at all surprised if the D7100 was like that. Nikon tend to pack the most they can into their DSLR's for the price.
