    Highway to Hell?

This scene looked pretty cool when I was traveling down the highway, but I'm not so sure anymore. It is a 3-frame HDR (7D 250mm @ f/11, 1/400 - 1/1600 - 1/6400, ISO 200), trying to get a little more texture and depth in the shot.

The smoke stacks look like they were inserted in pp. Perhaps you could blend some of the original in, as I think the smoke/steam is were you really want the detail. The brightness of the image doesn't really fit the title, so perhaps some other treatments would work. I see a lot of potential with it thought. If you want to add texture and depth, you should google Scott Kelby Calvin Hollywood Freaky to find a nice tutorial on using PS for that super detailed look.

    Re: Highway to Hell?

I took some creative liberty to help it towards it's name a bit. I added a colorized layer at 75% opacity, and put that over a layer that had just a smidgen of noise added along with a vignette, which I then switched to overlay mode, which was dialed down to about 80% opacity.

In doing all that, it makes some haloing a on the trees a bit more obvious.

    Great PP n8

I was thinking B&W with the original, but I like where you took it.

ksbryan0, I would revisit the original and give it some tweaking, it's a great composition, it just needs the right feel, especially for the title.

    Re: Highway to Hell?

    Thanks guys.

N8, I appreciate the PP job you did, and for what there is to work with, you did well. I played around with similar treatments, but eventually decided that there was too much light and the sky wasn't ominous enough to get where I would have liked to taken this, so I backed off to the version posted. I agree that the title set an expectation different than the image...maybe, if I get back there again late on a gloomy day, I might have something more exciting to work with!
