    Nikon Nikkor Q 135mm f/3.5 Lens

I just received my Nikon Nikkor Q 135mm f/3.5 Lens (Nippon Kogaku Non Ai), purchased on e-bay for under $50 with shipping. I haven't tried it in daytime but intial tests in the house look really good, sharp manual focus. The shutter speed meter seems to work on my D40. I also ordered a 2x extender for the lens for about $10. I love to play with old lenses. I'll have some pictures soon.

Awesome. I always try to encourage getting good, old, cheap manual focus glass as much as possible. People frequently overvalue autofocus and end up getting poor glass just to have AF. The fixed 135mm is an excellent value, and using manual focus on the old glass is easier than on current AF glass with the tiny focus rings.

From what I understand the metering shouldn't work with that lens on the D40, is it only giving the shutter speed when assuming an f/3.5 aperture? Or can the shutter speed be metered well alongside the varied aperture? If it calculates a shutter for 3.5, shouldn't be too hard to figure out the meter for other f-stops, just consider the stop distance and read the stop distance on the metering.

In any event, good find, great value, looking forward to some pics.

Thanks Charlie. I don't bother metering with manual lenses, I just go by trial and error.

To be fair, I subjected most of the pictures to my usual pp tricks to get the effect I like.
