    Bay Bridge- Sunset

It had been pouring rain off and on all day long yesterday but I had just heard of this spot from a fellow photographer so I wanted to take my chances and drive across the Bay to see it. Luckily the rain stopped about 45 minutes before sunset and the clouds parted somewhat.

For myself, the one criticism is I wish I had the tower a little higher in the picture to give it a feeling of being "bigger", at the same time I wanted to get as much of those clouds in as I could. Tough call.

Here is one more from a little wider angle, brings out more of the city. Not sure which one I like better

IMO the second (wider) one is better. The bridge in the first is too close to the edge. I also like the addition of the Prudential building which is essential to the San Francisco skyline. Overall, great image, you might be able to push the blacks a bit more. Great shots!

Thanks Adamo. I think I agree with you, I wasn't sure at first. Not only does the second include the Transamerica Building in the skyline, but it also has a hint of blue still in the sky. Adds even more color to it

    Thanks again

I like the first one and the second one might work as a web size image but when taking pictures you always need to try and have some detail and texture from top to bottom. I think the trees in the lower right would pose a problem in large print. The lack of detail consumes to much of the frame.
Maybe take it with a little more light?

I like the second image as the wider composition gives the viewer more room in this wonderful cityscape to enjoy. The combination of the luminous dusk and the sparkle of the city is a delight to the eye.

The bridge is a very powerful element in the composition. If this were mine, I’d play with darkening the bridge deck a bit, but it is a charming capture as it is.

    Re: Bay Bridge- Sunset

Josh, I think the first shot is my favorite night landscape capture I've seen in a long time. It has a lot to take in throughout the frame, plus a bunch of activity across the bridge. While I wish the bridge was further inset into the frame, I think it still works very well. Your perspective down the center of the bridge is aligned nearly perfect, and it draws me right across the bay. The foliage in the lower right doesn't bother me - I know what it is, and in this area of the shot more detail would be distracting and uninteresting. (I don't disagree with Greg regarding the second shot.) If this was my picture, I'd have it hanging on the wall!

    Re: Bay Bridge- Sunset

Thanks everyone for the feedback. I really wish the Transamerica building were in the first picture, it would be a slam dunk. I may have to go back here and try a slightly different angle, then again getting a sky like this one again may be difficult.

Nice shot and well thought out comp. I prefer the second one but would trim some of the lower half and have it more as a pano maybe???

You could clone out those trees in the lower right with the water
    I like them both.

    Re: Bay Bridge- Sunset

Welcome back Josh. Dont think I've seen you post here in awhile.

I like the city portion of the shot and would like to see a crop of it, enlarged. I don't care for the bridge here because I think it's shape looks weird at this angle. However, it does look novel. Not sure if the city is strong enough to stand on its own, just have to try it and see (if the image is sharp enough to do that crop). Oh and I find the second one more appealing.
