    The Unknown Warrior - Moscow

    Hi all

I am just back today from a 12 day holiday in Russia. Here is one image I took in Moscow. It is a soldier guarding the eternal flame which marks the tomb of the Russian unknown warrior.

    Cheers

Very nice Mike. This is a great angle. Maybe a little wider on the right side. The processing is perfect.

I agree totally with Greg's critique. The textures in the brick wall of the Kremlin come over very nicely too.

I wonder what it would be like if you shot it from the other side. Then perhaps you didn't have that option as usually there're tons of people there.

Excellent shot Mike, I stood in this same spot in 2003 shooting film so this brings back very fond memories for me

What an intriguing shot! I'm brand new to this site and photography in general and am so very humbled by the photos on this site!

I love the scale in this shot. And the brick wall takes up so much of the photo that I find myself really wanting to explore the rest of the photo.

Re: The Unknown Warrior - Moscow

Thanks guys for your kind words. Unfortunately, I am not sure I can do too much about the angle - immediately to the right of the frame the second sentry box appears, so for me to add another inch would involve some pretty difficult cloning.

Nor could I get this at the other side, because that is where the path is that the soldiers march along to change the guard - I couldn't get the angle there to get both soldier and flame.

Just for fun though, I attach another one from the same place.

    Thanks again.

    Cheers

I thought i commented on this already. Also, i thought the original post had two images. lol.

This is very sleek. very soviet, with big space and very clean lines. They like to convey grandeness and for that reason, i like the first shot more than the second. it had more of that feeling.

btw, would love to go to russia one day :-)
