saw this guy in a tree in my back yard it's been working on this hole at least the last two hours. Isn't it a bit late to be making a place to nest ?

    Cormorant?
Confused a little by the white appearance at the tail, but it's the right shape.

I took this shot in Ireland earlier this week. Can't find any online resource of UK birds that is helping me determine what it is. Any ideas?

I think this is a Juvie Swainson's Hawk. Matches Cornel lab of Ornithology except we are pretty far east of their range according to Cornell and Sibley.

Thanks Paul. I posted the image on a UK forum and they ID'd it as a juvi Starling. I've never noticed the European Starlings in my area having this much brown, but then they aren't birds I normally pay much attention to either!

Juvie starlings usually are a dull grey-brown around here.

Nearly ran over one (juvie starling) on the highway the other day that was chasing a grasshopper right into traffic.

I looked at my Ireland bird book... the only thing that looked close was a Starling.
The first step is BEING THERE to take it...

Thanks Paul and Terry. I need to try and get a better shot of them, they're cool birds.

This is back from migration this spring. I was seeing them a lot at the tail end of the migration.
