stuck memory card, and now d3000 wont open, contemplating suicide (jk)

hey, pros. Newbie here. I'm new to the forums so if I'm breaking some rule here, please let me know.

Anyway, I used a memory card with a detachable second half (does that make sense)? The detachable half is gone now, and the other half is stuck. I've tried using a nail file, tweezers, hairpins, etc., but it won't open.

And now I'm seeing that the camera won't turn on as well.

Are the two somehow related? I'm feeling that I scratched some important chips and now the camera is beyond repair.

I'm taking it to a service center tomorrow, (how much would that be btw? I'm working on a student budget here) but I want to know what the verdict is so I can get some sleep tonight.

Don't commit suicide. That would just leave the problem to someone else. It's selfish.

Take the camera into the repair shop.

There are no memory cards with a "detachable second half" - perhaps a mini-SD in a SD adapter? I've never heard of an SD card getting stuck in the camera. You may have damaged the camera by using the wrong tools.

Franglais is the resident Nikon specialist but let me ask a question. Will the door to access the SD card not open up? If it will open up the SD card has to be pushed in to make it release and come out. If it were mine I would cut the end off of a wooden toothpick to make it flat on the end and try gently pushing in the SD card to see if it will release and fall out. Do NOT use anything metal and be very gentle trying this, Jeff
