    DigitalRev

I've previously purchased my camera gear from B&H, Canoga Camera, and 6th Avenue who were all a pleasure to deal with.

Probably like most, I also had some experience with those other Brooklyn based internet retailers who try to upsell and switch. So it was with some trepidation that I began a search for a good price on a Canon EOS 1D Mk IV.

The dealers that I had used in the past carry this camera for between $4800 and $4900 not really much of a difference than that of CanonUSA who sell it for a few $ more ($4999).

After a great deal of research spanning several days I settled on DigitalRev, a HongKong based retailer who listed the camera for $4,409 plus shipping of $38.

I had checked out DigitalRev through resellerratings and they had a favorable rating, and even though there were a few complaints - it appeared that they monitor these kind of sites and make every effort to settle dissatisfied customers.

I was also aware that the camera would not be covered by the CanonUSA warranty, but DigitalRev warrants the camera for 1 year themselves. If anything goes wrong, you contact them and get their approval to either have it repaired locally or send it back to them for repair. There is no US import duty on a digital camera as it is considered a still video camera and is free of duty under the harmonized tariff system.

Having been the owner of two other Canon DSLR's the 30D and 50D, and having never had a warranty problem, I decided the cost savings was worth the risk so I ordered the 1D Mk IV online last thursday (2-25-2011).

The only problem that I had in ordering was that my credit card company rejected the charge - I immediately contacted my company and advise the charge was legitimate and it went through with no problems. (The antifraud software is there to protect).

Over the weekend, I monitored the DigitalRev site for news of my purchase, and the order section was blank. My fears mounted having buyers remorse and kicking myself for wanting instant gratification. Hong Kong is 12 hours ahead of the US so communication is affected proportionately. Three days later, on Sunday evening, I checked the DigitalRev website (it was now Monday morning in HongKong), and saw that the order had been shipped via FedEX the day I placed the order. This past Monday, the doorbell rang at 8:30 a.m. and FedEx handed me a package.

I'm now the proud owner of a Canon EOS 1D Ml IV.

    I highly recommend DigitalRev
