    WINTER 2011 Bird ID

    Is this a meadow lark? I see them along the back roads all the time.

    That is a horned lark. a winter bird seen in grassland open fields Watch for lapland longspurs mixed in too

    not 100 % sure having never seen a female redhead I can remember, but it looks like a ring necked duck to me.

    2 I believe is a blackheaded grosbeak. 4 is a Killdeer. 5 are male and female house finches. 6 some kind of thrush I believe. 7 is a golden crowned sparrow.

    This guy was down a steep bank so I didn't see him till he had flushed and was in flight. These two shots were all I got. The white blaze on the head... Wigeon maybe?




    I was a good distance from this guy. He was hovering in a wind column. Definitely a tiny raptor, kestral?

    first is a widgeon..... same as mike's but his has a different colored head and is a european vagrant yup kestral

    Not positive, but I think this is a common loon in non-breeding plumage? There is another loon on this same lake that is in breeding plumage. Here is a crappy video that you can hear the call. I didn't notice that the video setting got switched to 'compact' instead of HD setting that I usually use.

    Probably just another RTH, but the lighter brown and the amount of white throughout the throat make me wonder if it might be a Ferruginous Hawk.
