Big Horn Sheep

I took these on the backside of the National Elk Refuge - Jackson, Wyoming. The Big Horns spend the wintertime here and generally are feeding close to the road. This Ram started on the cliff and made his way down the side of the mountain and then along side of the road eating the sage.

Rams in winter may be the secret to finding them. I spent part of August 2009 in Canadian National Parks finding plenty of Big Horns, all females and adorable offspring.
Never even saw a male with those distinctive horns. Great pictures you are presenting.

Great images CChapman. I particularly like the last one as the horns have not yet been "broomed" and are still in full curl. Often when they get too big, the rams will knock a bit of the ends, as a real full curl interferes with their sight.
