    Hyde's Mill 2010

Took a trip to Hyde's Mill the other day to burn up my last roll of Kodachrome, but took a few digital shots as well. This is the one I like the best and I'm wondering what you think. It was the first time all month I had clouds to photograph in the sky so I tried to take advantage of it. This is a combination of 2 exposures, one at 4 seconds for the sky, the other at 15 seconds for the foreground. What do you think?

    Re: Hyde's Mill 2010

    Mike, a very good shot.
Here is what I like: the overall mood and composition. I think the up/left to down/right diagonal composition holds the image together well. The whole image has a certain, somewhat "blue" or "moody" feel to it, which I enjoy. The falls are exposed very well - and the "misty" feel goes along well with the rest of the picture.
Here is what I would potentially improve: I don't like the name of the mill on the side of the building - however, unless you are not ok with Photoshoping it out - it's there to stay. Also, I would perhaps crop a little off the right side - I am not sure the branches on the right side add much ....

    Regards,

    Stevan

Thanks for your input Stevan. I'm not opposed to PSing the sign out, just didn't give it much thought since I'm so used to seeing it there. I already PS'd the No Trespassing sign off the side of the mill.

Love the shot and the PP mike. everything is eye candy and moody. composed well. My only nitpik would be to have a bit more foreground. . .some more breathing room for the mill and waterfall.
    excellent

Very cool shot! I would pull the mill just a BIT more out of the dark. But awesome nevertheless.

Hey I remember this place! Another nice take on it. love the colours and sharpness of it. I think you pretty much nailed this one.

Thanks for taking the time to look and comment everyone one. I think I will try to lighten up the FG just a tad before printing.

Gary, I know what you mean about having a little more breathing room for the mill and water. I composed this pretty tight because with more FG you would have seen a mowed area in front of the mill. You can just start to see it in the bottom left hand corner but not enough to tell what it is. I think including the mowed area would take a little bit away from the 'old & abandoned" feeling that this place brings to mind.
