What in the world are these specs????

No rain at all in this game. There are about 10 shots of this play and all of the shots had these specs. For the life of me I can't figure it out. The specs were moving is it isn't my gear. This shot is about midway into the game and I they never appeared again. Anyone have any ideas?

Hope this isn't too big. I left the shot as is because I wanted you to see it straight out of the camera and unedited.

    It's not blurry. It's bokeh.

I'm going to assume the play was right after a time out and some of them had squirted themselves with the water bottles brought out to the huddle? A lot of players will not only drink but cool themselves down that way. Given the number of players in the scrum it makes sense to me anyway

It reminds me of the spray from boxing shots.. that's what I immediately figured it had to be water someone (or more than 1) put on themselves

Definitely some kind of water. I'll go with the water bottle theory, or maybe there was a bit of a puddle on the field there.

Thanks for the replies. In my six years shooting football I've never seen this on a dry night. You guys have common sense, so it must be water. I otoh do not. Thanks again!

It has to be water. I get them in football images all the time. I shot the attached image last week when it was warm and sunny out and there are water spots in the shot. I think it comes from two things - these guys are covered in sweat and sometimes pour water over their heads to stay cool so there is plenty of water to slosh around. Also, if you've ever worn a mouth guard you know that it has a tendency to make your mouth water and with a mouth full of saliva when you get hit moisture goes flying all over so with the combination of the two that has to be it.

That is one of the best action shots I've seen in a long time.

    My first thought was.......
    Blood....sweat....or.....tears.

Are both of the above shots being played on artificial turf? A lot of new artificial turf has small micropellets of rubber, plastic in the field, for traction, etc.
Could this stuff be getting kicked up during a play?

Look at the bottom of fidgety's photo, they're kicking it up in that shot.

You can tell the difference between rubber pellets and water/sweat.. the rubber never flies that high and is usually black
