Smile PowerShot SX210 VS IXUS 1000 HS

    hi
please I would like that some one advice me which Camera I buy

    Canon PowerShot SX210 IS
    http://www.canon.co.uk/For_Home/Prod...Shot_SX210_IS/
    or

    Canon IXUS 1000 HS
    http://www.canon.co.uk/For_Home/Prod.../IXUS_1000_HS/

in Canon IXUS 1000 HS it said

"An ultra compact 10x zoom lens incorporates an advanced optical Image Stabilizer to allow shooting at longer focal lengths and in low light without the need for a tripod."

and they didn't write that on Canon PowerShot SX210 IS

knowing that Canon PowerShot SX210 IS is 14 mp and zoom x14

which one do you advice me to buy and which one can take better photos at night ?
I mean for buildings in Newyork or Tokyo at night for exemple

Make sure to check my reply top your other post about night photos. Like I said there, technique is going to make a bigger difference than your camera. Even if you have the best camera, you need to use proper technique if you want good night photos.

I actually own the IXUS 1000 HS. It's called the PowerShot SD4500 IS here in the US. Here's an article I wrote about it when it was announced: http://reviews.photographyreview.com...-video-camera/

Overall it's pretty good but I wish it had a wider lens and I wish the 8 FPS burst rate worked at full resolution. As far as shooting at night, it will work pretty well but you'll still need a tripod for serious night photography. The image stabilization works great but it's not magic. Don't expect to hold it still for a whole second or anything like that.

I haven't posted any night shots taken with the SD4500 IS yet. I'll see if I can't dig something up for you, though. Of the two cameras you listed, I would choose the IXUS 1000 HS because it's specially designed for better low light image quality. That said, I can't emphasize enough that you still need a tripod if you want really good night shots.

I hope that helps. Let us know if you have more questions!

Some IXUS 1000 HS Sample Photos

These aren't exactly the kind of city photos you're looking for. But they are low light photos taken with my SD4500 IS / IXUS 1000 HS. Keep in mind that these were all taken carefully. I took multiple photos and they've also been carefully processed. But this is the kind of potential the IXUS 1000 HS offers if you use it right.

thank you very much Jhon your answer is too clear and I think finally got what I want all that I was trying to got is a clear and short advice from a professional. I was waiting for some one to tell me "buy that"

    I already read the review
the models of photos are good at low light but still there are a some nose on it

actually I tried to find this camera in some markets in Japan but I think it has a different name it is the IXY 50S in Japan, please check this link
    http://kakaku.com/article/pr/10/10ixy/p2.html

I loved this Camera because it is so compact and really as I can see on the photos models no compact camera can take that nice photos at low light
I add some models added by some Japanese people
and they said that they didn't use tripod at all

I had to take the photos out because they're too big and made the page load too slow. We also have a rule about only posting photos you've taken yourself.

That looks like the same camera to me. It's a brand new model and new body design and there isn't another one like it. At least as far as I know. It also has Canon's best low light technology. But I would still have a tripod for serious night photos. Yes, you can get good photos without one if you're careful and lucky. But if night photos are what you're after, a tripod is the right way to do it.
