Thumbs up Beer - it's not just for drunken rednecks anymore...

Playing with Vanessa, after the serious shots were "in the bag" for a Vidal Sassoon hair show/shoot on South Beach tonight. Wish I hadn't clipped the fingers on her right hand :mad2:

Is this a posed shot or a candid Jet ?

Great shot. That reflection on her skin bothers me a little.

Yeah, that left hand is superfluous, just he right hand holding the bottle and the green filtered light on her chest - no need for the other hand, and I think the shadow of it detracts from the simplicity of the bottle and the hand holding it.

I find myself mostly distracted by the excessive makeup, the overdone lipstick and the gaudy bright red hair, it looks plastic too, but I guess that is what they do in vidal Sassoon or something?

The background is also very plain, I think a slight gradient surrounding her face could help that, and I am not especially fond of the crop, shes real close to the left edge of the frame and pretty far from the top. That left hand also looks like its just about to do something. Sorry Jet, I normally really love all your work but this one is not really doing much for me on any level, except the green reflection on her neck which is pretty cool. Still, I don't think it overall redeems the quality of the image.

This shot was a candid. After the formal shots were done, I handed her the beer and fired off half a dozen shots while she took a swallow. This was near the end as she was setting it back down, and was her favorite of the set. The reflection is a result of hard light at close range with the bottle being directly between the light source and the subject.

While it looks like a studio shot, it was taken on location in the middle of a fashion show next to a storefront window on Collins Ave. In South Beach. Didn't have a lot of time for retakes, or a lot of room to maneuver with hundreds of attendees crowding around 3 sides. Background was a.5' wide roll of super white seamless paper.

Hmmm, if you like, I can register your concerns with the members of the official MAC professional makeup team, and David & Jesse who were being honored for the cut and coloring of the hair (the reason I was brought in)

These are valid concerns, and helpful. Once I get the formal shots processed, I'll share those as well, keeping your comments here in mind.

Haha, that's the thing though, I'm sure the makeup and hair is brilliant to professionals, but to my ignorant butt, I just really don't dig it at all. I guess my 'complaint' would have to be emphasized as quite the laymen perception.

I look forward to seeing your other shots.

Your model shots are fantastic - I love this one. What lens did you use, and camera setttings if you know them? I'd love to do these kind of shots - but primarily lack the nerve or opportunity. I suppose I could make the opportunity!

    Thanks,

    Phil G.

    Jet,

I'm mostly with Anbesol, but I do understand artist vision. I don't think this look happened by accident, meaning they were shooting for it to create a particular aura.

What I find funny though is how this model could play an incredible vampire: all she is missing is the fangs! Wow, great time of the year for that! Time for a little PS work..?
