    Monitor Check

I can't afford to invest in any monitor calibration software right now, maybe later on. But my wife had this one printed locally and it was almost to dark to even see the boat. How does it look to you? Critiques welcome as well, as always. Thanks

Some labs have problems with the 0-16 range. Its also more typical if you don't tell them to turn off auto adjustments (which usually bumps 0 up to 16 anyway). Can also depend on the paper and the papers brightness, ink dye/pigment, etc.

Great shot, definitely worth the print. What size?

She only had a 4x6 at one of those drug store machines. I want a 8x12 but will probably get one from Mpix. As a general rule I stay away from those machines. Some other prints my wife had made wasn't anywhere close to what I have on my computer.

    Re: Monitor Check

My monitor isn't calibrated. I like to take stuff to Sam's Club, because they're cheap, and the quality is pretty good. i've been finding that when I print big, 16x20+, if my original is contrasty, they come out real dark.

A custom lab near my house doesn't have that problem. I tell them to print from my original, and not to correct, and the prints come out just about exactly as I see them on my screen.

Not sure why the big difference, but I'm guessing it's the quality of the printers they use.

If you're interested in trying them out, everything can be done online, and they ship, so you can use them anywhere in the country. Prices are fairly competitive as well.

First, I don't believe that there is a 'brightness' standard even with calibrated monitors. You're on your own here.

I can easily see the outline of the boat and even it's rigging to the outrigers, etc. Most of the birds are dots, but I can tell the closest one (upper right) is a bird.

Very nice image. I might look at taking some off the right side unless you want the format.

Maybe a square crop? Funny think it looks dark on my HTC Incredible.
