Young Shooter, read what it says and look up what apartheid means and the quote will make sense.

However, I'm not sure a Coke machine is the best way to convey the message.I mean, it's kind of cheesy. And is the desaturation a statement about colour or lack off? There are some nice ideas, but I'm majorly put off by a Coke machine preaching about the how geat it is to not have apartheid.

yeah, I really have problems with sappy messages on commercial products. It really feels like manipulation. "If you buy our product you'll be supporting a noble ideal."

Nonsense. If you buy the product you'll be supporting a commercial company and helping their CEO live in luxury.

This is not a commentary on your photo, just my feelings on the subject within.

Thanks Hindey and Kellybean - you almost got me!

It#s not at all about the message ( btw which is the definition of your used "sappy" : powerful or stupid ?? .... I really do like the message itself )

I was quite shocked to find it on a commercial product ie the coke machine

........and I am proud to see some kind of communication beyond the photo itself getting started .....

Foto, if the exact same message was on a plaque or a statue, it would be extremely powerful. But to put it on a Coke machine, it becomes sappy, which in my definition is a powerful message used to manipulate emotions for the benefit of a third party.

The only other places I would commonly use the term "sappy" is for commercial products such as Hallmark Cards, and Telephone Long-Distance Service commercials.

Agree, consider the source. If this was something they really wanted to say I think they could come up with a few dollars for something other than this...

Getting back on track - because it's in Critique - I'm not sure what you're trying to show us. I don't really see this as a strong image.

    Re: freedom cola

Kelly bean nailed it for me, it just feels like I'm being manipulated by a Coke machine that has noble words printed on it. It really is just a cynical marketing ploy.

As for the image, it annoys me. Is that good? As for technical aspects, the desaturation needs more contrast to give it more impact. If this image was entitled to suggest your feelings about this picture it might alleviate some of the confusion surrounding what you're trying to say. What are you trying to say? Are you echoing the quote on the Coke machine or are you taking a different line? I know which view you are taking fotoscheu, but I'm trying to see if there's away to convey it in the photo to add punch.

Basically, if this image has a point, what is it? Can you make it clearer by manipulating the image or adding a title? I found this on Google images; this to me is a comment on apartheid (I'm guessing Blankes is Afrikaans for whites):

I had a quick play in Photoshop and came up with this, nothing major I know but the crop and contrast adjustment seems to make me question the image more and not worry about the extravenous peoole.

this to me is a comment on apartheid (I'm guessing Blankes is Afrikaans for whites):

Yes , you are very much correct with your translation , " Blankes is Afrikaans for Whites "
But to raise this point of " apartheid " on should be very carful .
Unfortunatly what happened , did happened and one cannot changed for what happened in the past.
Those kind of banks do no exist in South-Africa anymore. Apartheid was a very bad thing that happened and to be reminded again on something of that issue is becomeing a insult .We are all people trying to work is on direction towards a simular goal . And to reached that goal so that black and white can try to live in peace in the near future , after the blacks are killing , raping , stealing , murdering all the white farmers . ( Just for the sake of murdering someone )
My personal opinion , is that that kind of politics should be left out of a forum of this kind.

    Kind Regards
    james ( Proudly South-African !!)

Frankly, I think it is a serious outrage! I mean who in the right mind would even consider paying over $4 for a coke! Get real

    XVampire,

You should remember , that if that photo have been taken on Robben Island , the currency there should be South-African Rand - which is R6.10 to the American dollar !
So if my maths serves me correctly the coke should be .68 American cents !!

    Not so expensive then?

    Regards
    james

    Dear James

Again: I only tried to document the misplacement of a very good statement on a vender machine for soft drinks .... nothing else.

yes I agree - politics should not be discussed in this forum! - A discussion which you pushed to a new level, unfortunately. Don#t misunderstand: I am not saying your stetements are wrong or right. But definitely not right in this forum.

My next step is to ask the administrators to delete my threat and all comments from the forum

    Sorry to all !!

Attached please find the photo which represents the end of this political era ... for me:
