    Huntington Beach

    Hey Everyone,

Here are a couple from last year that I decided to go back and play with. I'd love to hear your critiques and comments.

    Thanks,

I'm drawn to the second one as well as the colors seem superbly vivid.... that being said, I wish the "lighthouse" was in it as it is in the first one. Beautiful nonetheless.

I really like the composition of the first

The colors in the second one are more intense, I'm not sure I like the blue foam.

    db, carotid, Armando, and Daq,

Thanks for the comments; I'm glad that you like them.

Carotid, I too wish I could have got the lighthouse in as well, but I couldn't get the angle I wanted with the lighthouse and the waves. I have a few others that are similar, I may post them later on.

Armando, interesting comment about the blue foam. I tried desaturating that portion and I'm not sure I liked how it turned out. One of the things that I like in the second shot are the little sparkles of light in the foam, but they seem to disappear when desaturated.

    Thanks again for the feedback.

I'm with armando. I really like the composition of the first one but love the color in the second. Both are great images!

OK, how about this as a compromise? I took the first shot and reprocessed it more like the second.

    Thoughts?

    Thanks in advance,

Thanks Jet. I appreciate the comment. I think I can do a reasonable job on the processing, but I need to work on the composition side of things as well as coming up with subjects that aren't done to death.

I like number one. The tower structure gives it more height in drama... and the reflection of the sun too.

I love the piers at HB, last wed. I was at Rubys on the Seal Beach Pier. Love the sunset there too. Great times with my girl.

    Re: Huntington Beach

Both original posted pics are very nice. The second edit of the first shot does not look good to me simply because it looks very processed and cartoonish. I know its subjective but its just not my thing.
    Nice work as always.

    Re: Huntington Beach

I like both the original images. The processed one is unnecessary. Hard to miss with a color palette like this. The pier is OK too, I guess it works as a subject, but this probably more fun to someone who has not seen beach life so much. Good overall control of contrast, which you probably did in post processing (hard not to have to, as sunsets really wipe out the shadow area details).

    Re: Huntington Beach

    Gary & GB,

Sorry about the slow reply, but I've been away. Thanks for the comments and it may sound strange, but I completely agree - which is sort of what I was trying to get to earlier. The last image is over-the-top but I was trying to see if that's what people were looking for. I also agree about the pier as a subject; it's hard to find a unique perspective on something like this and that's really what I'm struggling with. I'm really quite bored with these sorts of shots, but I'm not really able to grab something with that interests me more. Does that make sense/.

    Thanks again,

    PC

    Re: Huntington Beach

I would like the bridge/dock (whatever that is called) a little lower in the frame, so its not cutting right through the middle. I also would have liked to see you wait a bit longer so the tide was closer in. I also like the tones of the first one better. Good shots.
