Dragon Eggs

Spotted this female dropping her eggs into the water. They tap the water with the tip of their abdomen, releasing eggs in the process.

Eased into position and waited for her to make another pass. She made one more and was not seen again.

FWIW, from my observations it seems that the species that lay eggs in this fashion are the smallish to medium sized ones. The larger ones, especially the green darners which are especially common in my area, fly around with the male and female firmly clasped with the female laying eggs very deliberately on choice underwater vegetation.
