    escape to nature

One of those things that just catches the eye, a fire escape leading to the outside world.
Whereas we're usually trapped in an office looking out ...

    Very interesting, is it color?

I also sort of liked it cropped from the top so the upper landing becomes the top of the frame and provides framing for the image.
    No, I DON'T need that.

Yes, if you put it against a darker background you can see the colour in the grass and bushes at the bottom.
There's no "Lights Out" mode for web pages, but it's really useful in Lightroom

I thought about a crop, but decided it needs that light space at the top of the image, for me it gets too dark when framed by that upper landing.
And the railings going out of frame, rather than meeting the building and closing off that part of the image under the space, isn't as attractive for me.

Besides, it's dangerously near a square crop

Nothing wrong about a square crop, but I agree i like the open space of the beam and top frame. Good composition, the silhouettes of the spiral stairs and vertical lines of the trees really works interest.
Possibly a bit something more such as a person (once again with the person) standing on top platform looking towards the trees. . . hmmmm, works like this but could use just a bit more.
All in all, I like it. works well.
