One for the ladies - Alexandro

Finally broke down and bought a new computer, an i-mac. This is the first shot processed with Aperture 3, and I'd love to get some feedback. I can say that I prefer the way Aperture is laid out and the way it makes adjustments/handles files is much more to my liking than Lightroom, but that aside, how does everyone feel about the results?

You cut him off at the knees!

No sir, well above the knees, nearly half a thigh above the knees. It was cut off just below the lowest part of the top garment (for those that follow "the rules" for 1/2 length portraiture)

What a hunk haha. The only thing i would say is the belt buckle is reflecting too much light.

Good work, Jet. I agree about the belt buckle but that can easily be fixed in a number of ways as you know. Everything else is right on.
    Good work

It's interesting for a beginner who isn't aware of certain rules of portraiture to see remarks from "people in the business" who have more experience (even professional) Great shot, but to me, with the idea of picturing it in a magazine, I would think that it would be framed in a portrait style versus landscape. I also think by doing this it would pop the model out a little more, but I guess than you would lose the composition you were going for.

My wife is wondering how you got that picture of me as I was roaming out that day with my favorite belt buckle in the pouring rain. Thank you for providing us the photo of me for our 2010 Holiday Family Newsletter.

I'm off to finish the batch of brownies I made last night.

Thanks for the comments. Wasn't sure about the buckle, but the consensus seems to be to tone it down, and it is a fairly easy fix (I do think I'll leave the specular in at the bottom of it though).

Hmmm, where would you place the associated text? If it made it to a magazine it would be for one of two reasons, an article or an advertisement. FWIW this is one of about 40 shots taken that afternoon, nearly half are portrait oriented.

I expected more female response on this one -- where have all the lady photographers gone?

Good shot IMO. I see nothing wrong with the composition, for if every such shot was portrait format and full frame it would look pretty formulistic . Colors are great.

He's not my type. Sorry :P

I kind of like the composition, I could easily see something like this being an ad for cologne or something, and that space to the right being where they would put the scent fold thing lol. But the belt buckle is really shiny. Its pretty sad that it draws my attention more than him... Honestly, I dont remember what color of hair he has but I remember that shiny shiny buckle and the blurry rain.

I'm barely an amateur, if that...so i can't really critique such awesome work. However, to me it really looks like the head was pasted onto the body and something about him seems cartoonish to me. It reminds me of those elfyourself.com e-cards.

    Awesome background and rain.
