    Adobe Photoshop CS5 Officially Announced

Adobe made the their official announcement for Photoshop CS5 today. I have to say, it's looking pretty sweet. I didn't make the CS4 upgrade because of cost and because CS3 was getting the job done for me. But I think I'm ready for 64-bit processing and a couple of the other new features.

    Hi John,
What processor and OS do you need to get the 64-bit processing advantage?

That's the first thing I talk about in my article. For Windows the minimum is a Pentium 4 or Athlon 64 and Windows XP. For Mac you need an Intel multicore processor and OS X 10.5.7 or 10.6. For me, it's definitely time for a computer upgrade.

Any idea on the price? I like Adobe products but man do they cost a lot (and the co. still lost $ fairly recently).

Prices are in the article, too. It's $699 for a new install and $199 to upgrade.

Re: Adobe Photoshop CS5 Officially Announced

There are a couple of new features that really make me want to upgrade. The one the seems to be getting all of the attention is content aware fill. This looks really cool! Of course in CS4 everyone was talking about content aware scaling. I used that feature once. Didn't seem like a big deal at all.

I'm interested to see the HDR feature as well. I think everyone can agree that the HDR feature of CS4 pretty much sucked. If Adobe gets it right, it will be one less program that people will have to buy.

The other feature that I'm really excited about is the noise reduction built into ACR. I really hate noise and was never a big fan of the 3rd party software that I tried to reduce noise. I'm hoping this will help me deal with the noise issue better than I have in the past.

I'm also wondering if Adobe got their stuff together w/ HDR ... Couldn't be much worse than what I get in CS2.

I've also wondered, would make sense for Adobe to just buy out companies like PhotoMatix and use their algos and code instead of hiring their own team? But that might disrupt the whole plug-in paradigm.
