    Slurping Nectar

I guess I've been lurking too long on this forum and have really enjoyed seeing the other posts, I felt compelled to throw out one of my shots! Took it last fall while on a day trip with the family and finally got around to some post-work on it recently. Should have stopped down a bit to get him more in focus, but I was really wanting to capture the "action" of feeding and was so intent on that I never thought to check out DOF.

    Welcome Ken,
Wow very sharp. I really want to learn more on macro photography.

    Re: Slurping Nectar

Bob, there are some really great macro lenses and tools out there, but this shot was actually made with an EF-S 55-250 IS kit lense, hand-held. More a matter of patience and steady hands (which I normally don't have!), than expertise. Granted, when I shoot these kinds of photos without a tripod, I have a high cull rate on OOF pictures but now and then I capture some worth saving! I get a little lazy on hot days with a lot of hiking, so I tend to minimize the equipment I'm carrying and plan on taking a lot of extra shots. Thanks for checking out my post.

I think the DOF works great here. Brings total attention to the face. Great shot.
