    A Yellow Pair

To take a brake from my late B&W work I decided to give the colors a chance...well sort off...selective color.
A pair of old shoes that suffered several changes in color used by some local folkloric dancer.
A grab shot that I ended up liking....

wow! Those are some yellow shoes! I am scared of the outfit that goes with them ;)

Love the selective colour and the vanishing point of the plank.

All opinions expressed by this person are purely that, opinions which means she doesn't actually know anything about photography.

Here I like the selective colouring. Did you try making the inside of the shoe B&W as well so you only end up with the yellow (just a thought). Otherwise I like it, great DOF and Bokeh.

This is great Rob, and the fact that she obviously painted the shoes yellow is just the icing on the cake for me!

As an aside - very nice work on your new watermark/logo

Yes I thought about it, but the tone inside is so neutral that I ended up living it like that, TBH I did not try a version with the insides B&W....Iīll give it a try to see how it looks.

It's funny that you mention that.

The first thought or image that came to mind was some skank walking the streets who left her shoes behind.

So the photo sort of carries the potential for strong connotations.

Interesting that the left and right shoes are reversed.

Wow, I don't think we're in Kansas anymore -- oh, yeah, that was ruby red shoes, wasn't it? Great job -- the photography -- not the paint job. I've looked a couple of times and couldn't figure out what it was that really drew me to this -- I finally figured out you had the "shoes on the wrong foot" -- I noticed mdv mentioned it,too. This was a perfect choice for selective coloring. SC may not be the thing anymore according to some, but I like it.

Nice separation of the shoes from the background. The color is very impressive. Not getting a lot of satisfaction from the shot in general, but the color is amazing

    Re: A Yellow Pair

The shoes are OK and the way you colored them is really cool. But I am a bit thrown off kilter by the surroundings and the geometry of the wood they're laying on, etc. Maybe you meant to say that the woman jumped off the structure but left her shoes behind? Regardless, it seems like a precarious spot, adding some tension into the photo. Just my observations, anyway -GB

    Re: A Yellow Pair

This is very good use of selective color. Your eye has obviously been trained by your experience to have recognized a grab shot to be had. Probably would not have turned out as well if you'd set up your tripod, selected the perfect lens, waited for the light to be exactly right, set up a reflector, etc., etc.
    Love it!

As for your logo, I keep wondering where the other A is. You're probably not 50 yet.

Cool. Makes me think of 'The Wizard of Oz." It's not just the shoes, but the b&w and color mix. Compelling work with a simple subject.

Great subject, and well done Rob. I like the selective coloring, but personally prefer a more subtle color when the setting is b&w. In other words, I might prefer the shoes to be desaturated a bit as they stand out so strong from the bg.
Just a personal preference thing, but you have a great shot here.
fine composition and focus as well.

Sorry, my eye is always drawn to the out of focus forward shoe. Any reason why both were not in focus, just wondering why?

Thanks Paula....TBH I thought on the OZ movie, actually before putting a title to the photo I google it and found the shoes were red and the road yellow
As I said before I try not to think if some stile like SC is old school or not...When I see a pic my mind immediately chooses a PP style to go with.

Thanks Daq...I see you point this type of shots do no "produce" a feeling or mood....what they do IMO build "connotations" around them I guess.

Funny my mind worked the other way around...I though that against the B&W background I should have a strong color to boost the image....I never though the way you mentioned. I will give it a shot to the desaturation and see how that looks. its really cool to hear (read) different approaches...widens my PP view

You have the answer NK...this play your eyes do between the focal range aids the composition itself IMO.
Having both shoes in focus will make it dull IMO and loose part of the strength and interest in the frame....or at least that is the way I see it and how the shot was intended....the are no rules for this.
