Hawk almost got me a ticket

Got a shot at this Red Tail today on what I thought was a back road. While I was shooting I saw a car approaching from the rear, but as he was obviously slowing down I continued to take pictures. Guess what...it was a policeman. He was very nice and said that if I wanted to take pictures, please get off the road for which I thanked him and drove off.

Please critique as I need your help.

    Thanks

    Good morning Horace.
I find it hard to critque another's work other than to say I like it. I would also think it would be helpful to identify the equipment used for each photo.
I visited your gallery and I LIKE IT. Would help us amatuer's out to know how you captured those shots etc. I also noticed that you use a DSLR. It would help us out as well to know if you did any post processing. I feel you would catch more critiques if you give some of my suggestion some consideration. And thanks for the background story...it keeps it all real.

p.s. I'm not a DSLR user so I would limit my comments without suggestions. sorry. But I can learn techniques from your images should I try. Thanks.

    Good observation.
    Camera Cannon 7D
    Lens 500MM F4
    ISO 200
    1/125 @ f11

PP sharpened ,some set radius at 1, cloned out some limbs cluttering the picture. About 40% crop.

Nice moment and catch. I've seen a lot of hawks on back roads but never stop. Good for you.

I would trade some of your f/ stops for a faster shutter speed. The bird seems a little too soft for me and I'm thinking maybe camera shake on a long lens is the culprit. I'd also avoid centering the subject and think about a portrait crop.

Thanks for sharing. I have a few shots of my own posted for critique, should you care to comment.

You should never stop in the middle of the road to take a picture or have your daughter do it!!! Nice Dad, I’ll remember that during our summer trip!! Keep up the good work!
